June 2021: Homelessness + Education Disparity + Foster Care

Since a lot of our previous topics have been about nature and what we can do to help it, we wanted to focus June on a topic that is more directly related to humans themselves: homelessness, the education disparity, and foster care. These issues are topics that affect a great portion of the population, but ones that people often feel unable to take action for. Luckily for you, our set of posts have created simple and brief explanations on the types of issues these people are facing, and what is being done as well as what you can do in order to help these causes!

April 2021: Fast Fashion + Plastic Usage Around the World

When people think about environmental issues that the world is facing, they often only consider larger and more abstract problems that are difficult to solve, namely global warming and climate change. However, there are several environmental issues that we all have the power to fix by implementing small changes into our everyday lives! Avoiding fast fashion and plastic usage are two of them. Fast fashion is producing clothing in a cheap and environmentally harmful way: not only does it hurt nature, but it also has several negative social impacts. Plastic waste severely impacts marine life and piles up in landfills, polluting our environment. There are quick and easy solutions to solving these problems, and you can be a part of that change! Stay tuned for updates here and on our Instagram to hear more!

March 2021: Causes + Solutions to Deforestation!

Deforestation is a key reason for the human wildlife conflict, and it impacts several places around the world. This month, we’ve broken down the causes of deforestation into three main ideas: agricultural expansion, livestock ranching, and forest fires. Solving these issues may sound like an unachievable task, but just small changes in people’s everyday actions can make a huge difference. To learn more about how you can help reduce deforestation, stay tuned on our blog articles and Instagram posts!

February 2021: Introduction to HWC

The human-wildlife conflict (HWC) occurs when the needs and behaviors of an animal negatively impact the well-being of a human and vice versa. The most prominent factors contributing to this ongoing issue include agricultural expansion, human settlement, poaching, and deforestation. Many have put in the continuous effort to brainstorm solutions in order to end this battle with mother nature, but the ultimate solution is simple: community. You can help do your part by spreading awareness about HWC and learning more about this global issue through SHIRA.
